Read through our instructions below to learn how to brew with a Chemex brewer!

1.

Prep

Fill your kettle with water and bring to temperature. Bringing the water to just before the boil is ideal. Next, place the filter in the Chemex and flush with hot water. Discard the water.

2.

Weigh

Weigh out 50 grams of your coffee beans. We recommend investing in one of these scales for this, but if you don’t have one, it should be about 1/3 cup of coffee beans.

Grind

Grind your coffee to a size similar to kosher salt and then place the ground coffee into the Chemex. Next, tare the scale and gently shake the Chemex to flatten the bed.

4.

Bloom

Start your timer and pour 150 grams of water into your grounds bed to bloom your coffee. Stir the grounds with a spoon to agitate and prevent dry pockets and let the coffee bloom for 45 seconds.

5.

Pour

Pour towards center of cone working your way to the outer edges in concentric circles to a total of 300 grams in 30 seconds. At 1:30, pour to 520 grams in 30 seconds. At 2:30 pour the remaining water for a total of 780 grams. The final brew time should be around 5 minutes.
